For Owen Trevor’s Go Karts, Stage 23 were responsible for the design and animation of a retro video game featured in the movie. The Stage 23 team also conceptualised multiple glitch and datamosh effects to create surreal shot transitions and nightmarish dream sequences. Other VFX included set extensions, rain effects, sky replacements and timelapse compositing.

For Samantha Strauss’ TV series The End, Stage 23 created a VFX house-fire with smoke effects. Other VFX from Stage 23 included simtrav, photoreal macro images of a CG insect, and psychedelic sequences.

Stage 23 worked closely with director Antaine Furlong on this sci-fi thriller to deliver over 400 VFX shots. From initial previs to final delivery, Christian and Jonathan were able to bring Antaine’s vision of a dark, near-future Shanghai to life. Photorealistic CGI placed characters in a vast building interior, and extended studio sets to reach the Shanghai city skyline. Christian oversaw the animation of tense elevator chase sequences culminating in tumultuous explosions and cascades of sparks and shrapnel. This film featured heavily designed FX sequences, CG environments, set extensions and both real and fantastic matte paintings.

Stage23 produced a variety of photoreal VFX shots for George Miller's Three Thousand Years of Longing. Variety of work included CG takeovers, digital matte painting, set extensions and compositing. Stage23 also had the honour of completing the closing shot of the film - the magical bouncing soccer ball on Primrose Hill.

Stage23's crowning achievement on Ti West's horror sequel was the highly stylised dance sequence, featuring a digital matte painted World War II environment with explosions and fireworks. Other work included adding blood to action sequences, fire enhancements, cinema screen replacements and realising Ti West's the painterly aesthetic with multiple sky replacements.

Stage23 founder Jonathan Hairman was on-set VFX Supervisor for Warwick Thornton's latest feature "The New Boy." We were also proud to produce the key VFX sequences for the film including a simulated Orb, playful dust motes, a CG bubble on Cate Blanchett's head and a 3D boomerang in flight.

Starship was directed and animated by Christian Debney. This Stage23 Original animation was created using 3ds Max and V-Ray and full body motion capture elements. "Starship" received a feature article in 3D World Magazine and was awarded "Outstanding Achievement" in Best Shorts Competition, 2023. Release late April Starship has so far been selected for the Sydney sci-fi film festival, L.A. sci-fi film festival and is expected to appear at other festivals over the course of the year. Be sure to see it on a big screen if you can.

What we did

For the Amazon Original "Class of '07", Stage23 founder Jonathan Hairman functioned as on-set VFX Supervisor. Stage23 also produced flooded world set extensions across multiple episodes. By creating full CG environments and water simulations, Stage23 brought this apocalyptic water-world to life. Other notable shots included the fully CG burning effigy and the seal attack.
